Elizabeth Gloria Linda Black was born March 14, 1951. in Bad Hersfeld, Germany, to Cpl. Moses E. Black and Helga Maria Albinus. She grew up in the Black Lake area, graduating from Goldonna High School in 1968. She then continued her education at Louisiana State University- Shreveport from 1968-69. She then moved to Suffolk County, NY, where she attended Suffolk County Community College in 1973. She also was employed by the Suffolk County Department of Labor from 1973-76 as a Microfilm Technician. She then owned and operated Little Bo Peeps Day Care Center from 1978-85. In March of 1989, she obtained a diploma in Medical Office Management from the Colorado College of Medical and Dental Careers.
After several more years of traveling, she came home to Black Lake for good after her mother passed away. She raised three boys, all as a single mother. She always uplifted and encouraged those around her. She was very proud of her sons and wouldn’t hesitate to brag about them. However, her pride and joy could be found in her grandchildren Joseph Black Jr., Haiden Black and Soloman Luke Brown. She made sure they knew Grandma loved them.
She enjoyed gardening, shopping, playing Bingo and computer games, but most of all, she absolutely loved playing and visiting with her grandchildren. She lived a full life and traveled to many places, but her heart and soul always led her back home to Black Lake. Despite her failing health, she still enjoyed going to town and tending to her dogs.
On the morning of Feb. 4, 2017, our mother went peacefully to join her friends, family and loved ones that preceded her in death. Although she has left, she will forever be loved and remembered by those who were fortunate enough to have met such a strong willed, independent and loving person.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helga Black; father, M.E. “Sonny Boy” Black; brother, Donnie “Bozo” Black; and brother-in-law, George Randy Slaughter.
She is survived by her sons, Billy Black, Joseph Black and David Brown; three grandchildren, Joseph Black Jr., Haiden Black and Luke Brown; daughter- in-law, Micalea Brown; brothers, Harold Albinus and Richard Black; sisters, Gail Roy and Aline Slaughter; inlaws, Erle Roy, Roseanne Black and Patricia Black; and numerous nieces, nephews, greatnieces, great-nephews and other family.
The Black family would also like to extend appreciation to two of her best friends who regularly visited her, Mrs. Betty Gail Elliott and Cordell Womack. We would also like to thank Advantage Home Health and Synergy Home Care for providing such wonderful care to our mother.
