A Mass of Christian Burial for Johnny Antoon was held Nov. 28 at The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches with Rev. Louis Sklar serving as celebrant. Interment followed at Memory Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. John Maroun Antoon, 72, of Natchitoches, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born in Shreveport to Maroun and Beatrice Derbonne Antoon on July 29, 1943. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Johnny also earned his masters degree in history from Northwestern State University. Since 1975 he was the owner/operator of Antoon’s Package Liquor in Natchitoches. All of his family and friends will remember him as a kind, gentle, selfless man that would always put others first. He is survived by his wife, Merle Wilkerson Antoon; his son, Michael Antoon and his wife Alyson; his daughter, Danielle Antoon and her fiance, Daniel Cobb; a sister, Catherine Beatrice Antoon; and numerous cousins and friends. Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Charlie Brittain, Claude Dance, Michael LaBorde, Justin Golemon, Randy Lucky, John Jackson, Harry Garsee and Mike Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Neitte and Barry Guillet. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Johnny’s name may be made to the Johnny Antoon Scholarship Fund c/o NSU Foundation, 535 University Parkway, Natchitoches, LA 71497; Natchitoches Hope for Paws, P.O. Box 2552, Natchitoches, LA 71457; or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
