Funeral services for Reverend Michael D. Callahan were held Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. Visitation began at 9 a.m. at Amazon Baptist Church in Bunkie. Rev. Callahan served as Pastor of First Baptist Church Amulet in Natchitoches and previously served as Pastor of Blooming Grove Baptist Church in Farmerville. Born first to the late Berthol and Catherine Pearson Callahan, Rev. Michael David Callahan entered this world on Jan. 2, 1950 and departed this life at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 7, 2016 at Willis Knighton-Pierremont Hospital in Shreveport. Professionally he was a 1968 graduate of Carver High School and 1974 graduate of Southern University and A&M College. He also obtained a Juris Doctorate Degree in Law from Southern University Law Center. Rev. Callahan operated a private law practice, served as an Assistant District Attorney, Public Defender and Chief Counsel to the Louisiana Senate’s Labor and Industrial Relations Committee. Rev. Callahan leaves to cherish his memories, two beloved children, Johnathan Callahan (Kameka) of Houston, Texas and Michelle Callahan Randall (Marcus) of Baton Rouge; his grandchildren, Nicholas Bradley and Bailee Callahan. One devoted sister Brenda Callahan Sampson (Lemuel) of Bunkie; and two very devoted friends, Rev. Charles D. Jones of Monroe and Randy Stelly of Natchitoches.
