Margaret Casey Horton, 71, of Coushatta went to be with the Lord March 30, 2016, after years of treatment for breast cancer. Peggy, as she was known to many, was in the midst of family and friends as her husband of 43 years, Stan Horton, held her hand. Services will be Saturday April 2 at the Open Door Fellowship Baptist Church in Coushatta, with visitation at 1 p.m. and services at 2 p.m. Dr. Collin Wimberly will officiate, assisted by Rev. Wilton Wager. Burial will follow at Social Springs Cemetery in Ringgold. Visitation for friends and family was Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Rocket-Nettles Funeral Home in Coushatta. Peggy was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., Dec. 27, 1944, the first child of the late Ellis and Jean Brown Casey. Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Anne Casey Cornelius. Survivors include her husband, Stan Horton; his son Steve Horton of Shreveport; daughters Kimberly Rich and husband, Clay of Bossier City, Kelly Dunn and husband, Jeremy of Natchitoches; five grandchildren Grace Rich, Jackson Rich, Kate Rich, Matt Dunn and Margaret Dunn; and one brother, Earl Casey of Atlanta, Ga. Those grandchildren became the sparkle of life for Peggy, their Nana. They made her step lighter, her smile was their smile, their laughter was a tune she hummed when alone. Stan Horton celebrates his wife as a woman of great faith, with words such as giving, selfless, a person filled with compassion, a woman who loved the Lord and her family unconditionally. Margaret “Peggy” Horton was for decades a registered nurse who later taught at the Northwestern State University School of Nursing in Natchitoches, where she earned her undergraduate degree. She held a master’s from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and had worked toward a doctorate through studies at the University of Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Steve Horton, Earl Casey, Clay Rich, Jackson Rich, Jeremy Dunn and Matt Dunn. The family requests that memorials be directed to the building fund of the Open Door Fellowship Baptist Church of Coushatta.
