THOMAS BURNS

Thomas Alfred Burns, 81, of Natchitoches, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016 in Vancouver, Wash. The memorial service details will be announced at a later date. Interment will be held in Versailles, Mo. Tom was born Oct. 6, 1935 in Kansas City, Mo., to Alfred Burns and Helen Ross. He was married to Abiah Utter Burns on Dec. 15, 1962. He held a Ph.D. in animal physiology from Arizona State University, was Professor Emeritus at Northwestern State University, was the vice president of Academic Affairs at Northwestern State University, was on the City of Natchitoches Planning and Zoning Commission and was the president of Natchitoches Parish Library Board. He is survived by his wife, Abiah Utter Burns; his sons, Thomas Angus Burns and his wife, Susan Burns, and John Henry Burns and his wife, Shelly Burns of Vancouver, Wash.; and his granddaughter, Emerson Burns of Lafayette

THOMAS MIZELL

Thomas Wade Mizell “Tom Tom,” age 41, died Oct. 27, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Willis Knighton in Shreveport. Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Dean Mizell. He is survived by his two children, Ashley Mizell of Alaska and Dalton Mizell Of Tenn.; two furbabies, Jazzy May and Molly May; his mother, Lolette Mizell of Robeline; brother, Joey Mizell and wife Tammy of Many; sister, Missy Mitchell and husband Mark of Robeline; niece, Chelsea Mitchell and nephews, Tanner, Jesse and Jace; brother by choice, Trey Hardee and wife Janie and their children Ella and Thomas; and a host of family and friends. “Tom Tom” was a caring, good-hearted man and a wonderful son. He lived to work on and restore cars. He loved his family and he loved life. He spent his spare time helping his friends; always there to help out not matter what time of day  it was you could count on “Tom Tom.” He was a gifted mechanic whose career started at a very young age, taking everything apart and always to be quick on his response to anything with a joke. He was loved beyond measure by many and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched. We rest knowing  that he has been made whole again and will be waiting to greet us when that day comes. We are comforted by the fact that he was met by his dad as he left this world and all the others who left before him. Funeral Services were held Sunday, Oct 30 at 2 p.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Chance officiating. Burial followed in the Warren Cemetery. Visitation began Saturday, Oct. 29 at 5 p.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many. Pallbearers were Johnny “Country” Oats, Trey Hardee, Steve Facconi, Johnny Ashby, Paul Mizell and Page Mizell. Honorary Pallbearers were Elwin Mitchell, Ty Moran, Terry Hayes and Ronnie Smith

He was educated at St. Matthew’s High School. On April 4, 1960, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Emma Grace LaCaze. To this union eight children were born- five girls and three boys. Brother Tommy was a devoted family man who did the very best that he could for his family. He worked as a custodian at Northwestern State University for over 30 years. He also did carpentry work and mechanical work. As a result of learning to do mechanic work, he kept our old cars running. He accepted Al-Islarn as his religious belief and was very devoted to the practice and teaching of it. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oprise Helaire Sr. and Orentha Davis Helaire; his first wife, Emma Grace LaCaze Helaire; two brothers, Oprise Helaire Jr. and William Helaire; one sister, Gracie Helaire Roberson; a granddaughter, Jameelah Renae Slate and a grandson, Ibrahim Helaire. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 42 years, Elcener Williams Helaire; five daughters, Carolyn Helaire Wincher (Lee) of Houston, Texas, Emma Helaire Slate Byrd (Danny), Barbara Helaire Owens (Gordon) of Natchitoches, Kimberly Ann Helaire and Shuntell Helaire of Houston, Texas, three sons- Albert Helaire of Natchitoches, Donald Ray Helaire of Houston, Texas and Jerry Lynn Helaire (Andrea) of Monroe; four sisters, Mary Helaire Roberson (Huey) of DeRidder, Camilla Helaire Cook of Houston, Texas, Ruth Helaire LaCaze (Clarence) of Natchitoches, Rosie Helaire Williams (Clyde) of Shreveport; two aunts, Rosanna Helaire Blake and Alma Davis Batiste both of Natchitoches; one uncle, Allan Davis of Houston, Texas; 15 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Interment followed in Black Lake Full Gospel Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5-10 p.m. at Family Worship Center Sunday, Oct. 30 and 8 a.m. until service time on Monday. Inez Guin Silvie was born Feb. 25, 1943 in Bienville Parish and passed away Oct. 28, 2016. She was preceded in death by her late husbands, C L Guin and Charles Silvie of Black Lake; her parents, Lemon and Gracie Potts; brothers, LV Potts, IV Potts, TE Potts, Thomas Potts, Hester Potts; sisters, Docia Smith, Dorothy Neely, Eva Ray Tilley and Eula Mae Tilley. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Guin, Penny Niette (Gary) and son, Rickey Guin (Heather); grandchildren: Adam Guin, Michael, Wayne and David Tarver; Patrick, Gracie, Alan, Steven and Kevin Niette, and Hillary Guin; greatgrandchildren, Tristyn, Trenton, Pamela, Bella and Drake; one brother, Elmer Potts; two sisters, Helen Hughes (L.D.) and Annie Bell Desadier; and special sister-inlaw, Winnie Perot. Burial will follow at Belmont Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Apostolic Truth Tabernacle located at 9086 Texas St. in Robeline. Lecia Ann Mitchell, 54 years of age and a resident of Robeline, passed away Oct. 30, 2016. She was born Nov. 27, 1961, in Many to George Masters and Roberta Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, James Mitchell as well as her grandfather, Louis Mitchell. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. To her grandbabies, she was known as Honey. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than time spent playing with them. She loved Jesus and was a giving compassionate person. She was a sweet and forgiving woman who would help out in any way she could; She was a true friend. She loved to work in her yard. Whether she was just cleaning up or working in her pea patch she was happiest outdoors. She was also known for her muscadine jelly. She was a good woman and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her husband, Dale Stoker; children, Courtney Freeman and her husband Anthony, Eric Stoker and his girlfriend Libby, and Seth Stoker and his wife Kandas; and her father, George Masters. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Bayli Stoker, Ella Freeman, Anthony “AJ” Freeman and Annistyn Stoker. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Eric Stoker, Seth Stoker, Mike Matthews, Mikey Matthews, Justin Matthews and Benny Matthews. Honorary pallbearers will be Will Rachal and Max Stoker.

Ted Harden will be officiating. Burial services will be held at a later date at NWLA Veterans Cemetery. Waymond Dale, 67 years of age, passed away Nov. 7, 2016. He was born on May 1, 1949, 23 minutes after his twin brother Raymond Dale. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Waymond is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Lucille Dale and sister, Judy Gay. He is survived by his two sons, Waymond Dale Jr. of Baton Rouge and Timmy Dale of Alexandria; twin brother, Raymond Dale and wife, Karen; sister, Renee Scarbrough and husband Dennis; nephews, Wade Scarbrough and Carl Dale; nieces, Misty Melton and husband, Lee, Joni Scarbrough, and Tammy Bardbo and husband, Brett; along with numerous great-nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Wade Scarbrough, Tuff Penn, John Smith, Hunter Melton, Charlie Simpson and Adam Penn.

Lynn was born in Natchitoches Nov. 12, 1930 and passed on Nov. 3, 2016 in Springtown, Texas, nine days shy of her 86th birthday, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.E. and Jewel Hicks, her first husband Henry Ford (Peabuck) Boyt, her husband Donald Paul Driscoll and all of her loving pets who were waiting to greet her in Heaven. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Lynn Boyt Harrison (Gene), Susan Boyt Bamberg, her grandchildren Frank (Tina) Harrison, Burt (Anna Mary) Harrison, Brant (Krissy) Bamberg, nine great grandchildren, Anne Burt, Amelia and Jay Harrison, Anna Cale and Ayden Rain Harrison, Sierra and Mesa Jo Meadows, Tate Bamberg and Kash Bamberg. Her siblings, Nell Hicks Bowie of Memphis, Tenn., Bill Hicks (Yvonne) of Natchitoches and Peggy Hicks Carson of Peachtree City, Ga., and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Lynn’s life will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at 2 p.m., with a graveside service at the Beulah Methodist Church Cemetery. Following the service, the family will have a celebration of Lynn’s life in the church and would love for everyone to come in and rejoice with us in her homecoming to Heaven. The family requests that, in her memory, memorial donations be made in her name to The Alzheimer’s Association or Natchitoches Humane Society.

Joyce Greene Hayne

Joyce Greene Hayne, 85, previously of Natchitoches and Alexandria, passed away Nov. 3, 2016. She was born in Natchitoches on Dec. 31, 1930. Joyce graduated from Bolton High School and attended Louisiana State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Joyce will be forever remembered for her dedication and love for her community, her friends and most importantly her family. She was a member of and served as President of the Junior League, Altar Society, Four Seasons Garden Club and P.E.O. She was also a very active member of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Natchitoches where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Joyce was a loving and devoted wife and mother and was married to the late William P. Hayne, II for 64 years. She was a master at entertaining and her meat pies and pralines will forever be remembered by her friends and family. Saturday nights at the Hayne house were always a time of joy as they shared stories and laughter over an Old Fashion with good friends. Joyce Hayne is preceded in death by her husband William P. Hayne II; her parents, Houston Green and Ilie (Nonee) Greene Close; and her children, Lindsey Louise Hayne and Thomas Houston Hayne. She is survived by her sister Marguerite Doncaster; her son, William P. Hayne III and his wife Elizabeth L. Hayne; and her many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her grandchildren Heather Hayne Edwards and husband Jonathan and Brian Christopher Hayne and wife Alex; great grandchildren, Addison, Harper and Benson Edwards, and William and Christopher Hayne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, www.svdpusa.org/ Donate or to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Natchitoches (318-352-3422). A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Catholic Church of St. Ann in Marietta, Ga. Mayo Prud’homme

Mayo Prud’homme passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2016 at the Natchitoches Community Care Nursing Home in Natchitoches surrounded by family. He was born Feb. 5, 1932 on Oakland Plantation in Bermuda. Mayo graduated from Northwestern State University in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he served in the US Air force and was stationed in Japan. In 1963, he married Annette Berry of Bastrop. In 1966, he went to work for Eastern Airlines where he retired in 1990. He enjoyed traveling, genealogy and visiting with friends and family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Prud’homme was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Annette Berry Prud’homme, his parents James Alphonse Prud’homme II and Rosalie Lucile Keator Prud’homme, his brothers James Alphonse Prud’homme III and Kenneth Andrew Prud’homme Sr. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Prud’homme Barker and husband Philippe of San Leon, Texas; his son, Mayo K. Prud’homme Jr. (Tad) and wife Judith of Youngsville; granddaughters, Megan and Ashley Prud’homme and Annette Demartinos; sister Vivian Prud’homme Duggan and husband Ted; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Mayo Prud’homme will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Chapel in Bermuda at 2 p.m. on Nov. 12. He will be laid to rest next to his loving wife in a graveside service to be held at Red Hill Cemetery in Mer Rouge at 1 p.m. on Nov. 13. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude or St. Charles Borromeo Chapel in Bermuda, Louisiana, 1490 Hwy 119, Natchez, LA 71456 in memory of Mayo Keator Prud’homme.

RONALD DEAN DYES

Funeral services honoring the life of Ronald Dean Dyes, 71, were at noon Friday, Nov. 11, at Old Pisgah Baptist Church in Marthaville with the Rev. Dean Johnson and the Rev. Glenn Howard. Interment followed at Marthaville Cemetery. The family receive friends for visitation Nov. 10 at Old Pisgah Baptist Church from 6-9 p.m.

Ronald was born on Dec. 31, 1944 in Shreveport, to JB and Willie Forsong Dyes and passed away on Nov. 7, 2016 in Marthaville.

Ronald was a member of Ajax Lodge # 325 and received a past master 25 years certificate.

Ronald worked in foreign oil fields in Libya and Saudi Arabia. Ronald’s hobbies were fishing Black Lake and he is the record holder for Black Lake.

He also enjoyed hunting, camping, and 4-wheeler riding with friends and family in the Oklahoma mountains. He was a former board member for Farm Bureau of Natchitoches Parish and also member of Natchitoches Parish Cattleman’s Association.

Preceding Ronald in death are his parents JB Dyes and Willie Dyes Ott; sister, Marilyn “Peachie” Lewis; father and mother-in-law, Thurman and Marie Middleton.

Those left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Pam Middleton Dyes of Marthaville; son, Ronald Dean Dyes II of Marthaville; daughters, Carla Clemmens and husband David of Haughton and Christi Dyes of Natchitoches; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Jami and Roland Dans of Marthaville; grandchildren, Clayton Dyes, Camron Dyes, Gracie Dans, Zachary Dans, Levi Dans; brother, Jerry Dyes and wife Jeannie of Fredericksburg, Texas, nephews, Dr. Johnathan Dyes, Jeremy Dyes, Robert Lewis; brother-in-law, Robert T. “Bobby” Lewis and wife Theresa; niece, Dondra Griggs and husband Paul; a host of Dyes Cousins and Forsong cousins, great niece, and nephews; special friends, Lawrence and Tamara Baxter, Emily Baxter and Caleb Baxter.

Those honoring the life of Ronald as pallbearers were Clayton Dyes, Camron Dyes, Lawrence “Bubba” Baxter, Caleb Baxter, Travis Strahan, Roland Dans, Randy Hilliard and Boyd Hightower.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jack Pace, Gary Jones, Alden Kuhn, Bobby Lewis, Dale Moore, and JW “Boney” Powell.

Funeral services for Glen Dove will be Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1:30 p.m., at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday and at 11:30 a.m. until service time at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
 
Glen worked for Jimmy Long, of Dixie Food, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Office and the State of Louisiana.
 
He is survived by his son Richard Dove Sr.; daughters, Glenda Corley and Donna Corona; and his son-in-law Kenneth Sims. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Lord, Katie Gerlinger, Jennifer Spillman, Brett Sims, Robert “Bo”Corley, Richard “Cooter” Dove Jr., Derek Sims, Ryan Richard, Samantha Richard, Joey Corona; and 27 great grandchildren.
 
Glen was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Betty Rodgers Dove; his daughters, Karen Corley and Dianne Sims; parents, Roscoe and Gladys Dove; step- mother O’beria Dove; his sisters Lurline Cox, Gerri White and Hazel Beaty; his brothers Roy, Waymon, Lloyd and W.A “Penny” Dove .
 
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons, Brett Sims, Robert “Bo” Corley, Richard “Cooter” Dove, Jr., Derek Sims, Ryan Richard and Shane Lord.
 
Honorary pallbearers will be Sheriff Victor Jones Jr., Lyle Ross, E. L. Moss, Jackie Malone, Ronnie Vascocu, grandsons Joey Corona, Tristian Dove, nephews Dean Dove, Mickey Dove, Jeff Dove, Ronald Wayne Dove and Arty Gibson.
 
The Dove family would like to thank the Claiborne Rehabilitation Center and staff, Regional Hospice and Natchitoches Hospice for the care and love shown to “Pa Pooh” while in their care. We would also like to thank our family and friends for their kindness and prayers during his battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s.

JAMES BRUNING

James Lindwind Bruning Sr., 84, of Natchitoches, passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2016. He was born in Clarence Oct. 11, 1932. Jim was the son of the late Harry and Molly Bruning. He graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1952 and then Northwestern State University in 1958. He was a four-year football letterman at Northwestern State. Jim served in the Army from 1953-55. He also graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a masters
degree.
 
Jim was a coach and educator at Natchitoches High School from 1959-1965. In 1966, he became the athletic director and head football coach until 1977. Natchitoches High, under his leadership, had several district championships and playoff bids. His 1969 Natchitoches High School team had the perfect season and went 14-0 and won the State Championship. From 1978-1983, he was athletic director. After he retired, he worked with Lott Oil.
 
Jim was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Bettye Beasley Bruning. He is survived by his children Janyce Bruning Kinley and her husband Allen of College Station, Texas, Harryette Bruning Tinsley and her husband Sutton of Arcadia and James L. Bruning Jr. and his wife Kathryn Anthony Bruning of Humble, Texas. The greatest joys of his life were his four grandchildren Kelsey Kinley, Hannah and Lauren Tinsley and James Rayford Bruning. He is survived by his sisters Betty Lou Thompson of Campti and Mira Ann Horne of Natchitoches and brother Alfred A. (Beddie) Bruning and his wife Katherine of Clarence and many nieces and nephews.
 
One of the dedications from his players stated, “Coach Bruning’s overall record speaks for itself; however, no win or loss record can ever reveal the success that this man has had in the growth and development of young men. Records are for statisticians or spectators and never can be used to judge the value of a man. No win or loss record can ever picture the father image of Coach Bruning. Points are just numbers on a scoreboard and short-lived, whereas Coach Bruning’s image of a man will live with us forever.” 
 
Visitation was at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 5-8 p.m.
 
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 at First Baptist Church in Natchitoches at 10 a.m. Visitation at the church will begin at 9 a.m. and Rev. Thomas Rush will officiate the service. Interment will be at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches following the service.
 
Pallbearers are Gene Knecht Jr., Rand Dennis, Randy Long, John Williams, Joe Beck Payne, Mike Doherty, Buddy Hale, Gary DeBlieux, Jerry Sherrill and Floyd Antley Jr. All former players will be honorary pallbearers.
 
The family would like to thank the many friends and former players who helped by visiting and caring for him. Special thanks to Kenneth Hurd, Warren Massia, Stuart Wright, Gary DeBlieux, Kenny Trahant and Terry Downs for their hours of caring and visitations.

Services for Tommy Lee Wiley are planned for Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Restoration Apostolic Ministries Church, on 175 Fairgrounds Road in Natchitoches with burial following in the Breda Town Cemetery.
 
He was born Jan. 2, 1986 and passed away Nov. 7, 2016. The pastor of the church, Apostle Sebastian Babers, will officiate the service.
 
The remains can be viewed at the church just prior to the service.
