Graveside services celebrating the life of Mary Josephine Stuckey Sills were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at Greenwood Memorial Park in Pineville with Reverend George Gennuso officiating. Mary Sills, 98, of Natchitoches, passed from this life on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016 at Heritage Manor in Baton Rouge. She graduated in 1940 from Louisiana College with a degree in zoology and in 1942 from LSU with a master’s degree in zoology. She returned to LSU later in life to earn a master’s degree in French. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchitoches. Josephine enjoyed gardening, animals and was an avid reader of a wide selection of books. She will be missed dearly but her memory will be cherished. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert R. Sills; parents, John and Lita Grant Stuckey and sister, Laura Chandler. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, John Pharo Sills and wife, Marsha and Robert S. Sills; granddaughters, Katie Sills and Emily Sills, and a host of other family members and friends.
