
Funeral services for Iris Lee McCrory will be held Monday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, with Rev. Bill Kincaid officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches. The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m Dec. 7 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home. McCrory, 90, of Natchitoches, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. She was a housewife and an excellent cook. Her specialty was fried foods of any type. However, her true specialty was fried fish. She delighted feeding large family groups. Even though preparing disparate foods, it would all arrive on the table at the same time and all hot off the stove. And more than anything she absolutely adored her grandchildren. McCrory was born to Howard Osborn Whitt and Mary Virginia Gibbs in Bluefield, W Va. Sept. 23, 1925 although the other end of the house in which she was born was located in Bluefield, Va. She was born into a military family. Her father served for over 30 years in the army as did her three brothers. With her father being a career soldier, the family moved many times. Locations include Fort Meade, Md., Fort Eustis Va., Panama Canal Zone, Blairsville, Pa., Fort Lee, Va., Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Fort Chaffee, Ark. and finally to Fort Polk, where she met her husband, “Mac” of over 65 years, following the onset of WWII. Not long after their marriage they would be separated for almost 3 years while he served in the South Pacific. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Osborne Whitt and Mary Virginia Gibbs, of Virginia; husband. James C. “Mac” McCrory; brother, Howard O. Whitt, Jr., and wife, Louise Riley; brother Lawrence Holford Whitt and wife Pat: sister, Mildred Anabelle Whitt Hedgepath and husband, Charles; brother, Richard Burman Whitt and wife Lola Stroud; sister, Marion Alice Whitt and husband, Robert Ulsh. She is survived by a sister Helen and husband Archie Tuthill of Bushnell, Fla. She is also survived by two sons, James C. ‘Jim’ McCrory Jr. and wife Joy of Natchitoches, son Richard McCrory of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Carolyn Joy and husband David of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, James C. ‘Jimmy’ McCrory III, a senior cloud engineer with Walmart.com of San Francisco, Cali.; Keith McCrory, a logistics coordinator with Fedex and Delta Air lines of Lafayette; Kevin McCrory, a certified public accountant with the Louisiana Legislative Auditors of Baton Rouge; Colleen McCrory, a graduate student at LSU and Ryan Lee McCrory, Bushnell, Fla., an excellent student. Pallbearers will be Jimmy McCrory, Keith McCrory, Kevin McCrory, Richard Hooter, Ralph McCrory and Dannie Collins.
