Gladys Wilson McCary left this world for Heaven Aug. 30, 2016 at 10:50 p.m. Her visitation and the funeral was held at the Blanchard – St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches Saturday, Sept. 3, with the visitation at 1 p.m. and the funeral at 2 p.m. Afterward, those who wished to travel to the grave site drove to the Beulah UMC Church cemetery outside of Marthaville. Gladys, commonly called “Ma” by everyone, was born on December 10, 1922 to her loving parents, Dudley Dunn Wilson and Sarah Lavadah Jones Wilson. She was the first of three children: Earl Dudley Wilson (deceased) and Virginia Muriel Wilson James (living) are her siblings, whom she cherishes. After graduating high school at Ajax, Gladys moved to the Dallas area and trained to be a “Rosie Riveter” making the legendary World War II fighters, the P-51 mustangs. Gladys was proud to contribute during the war effort, but her job ended when the war ended. Afterward, she decided to attend and graduate from a cosmetology school in Dallas and later spent over 40 years as a selfemployed hairdresser. Her last years as a hairdresser were spent in Natchitoches in a spare room of her home, which was dubbed “Gladys’ House of Curls.” When asked how much longer she intended to work, her response was “Until my last customer dies!” And that’s exactly what happened… Gladys outlived all of them. Gladys leaves behind a large number of loving and very devoted family members: (daughters/husbands) Dian Sandefur/ E. H. “Sandy” Sandefur; Darlene Keeth (deceased as of 07/05/16) / Lester E. Keeth; Deborah Tibbs / Glen Tibbs; and Doreen Johnson / Mike Johnson. (grandchildren / spouses) Denny Keeth; Lydia Herrera Sheppard / Jason Sheppard; John Michael Morrow / Sharon Thomas Morrow; Donny Keeth / Dana Warren Keeth; Joshua Tibbs / Jason Hartz; and Jared Tibbs. (great grandchildren) Brennan Scott Jones; Isabella Jones; Alayna Morrow; Ariel Morrow; Sarah Emily Sheppard; and Heaven Keeth. Serving as pallbearers were Jason Hartz, Denny Keeth, Mark Lester, Jason Sheppard, Jared Tibbs and Josh Tibbs.
