A service to celebrate George Henderson Mallet Jr.’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, with Rev. John Foster officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. March 11 at the Funeral Home. George Mallet Jr., 91, passed away March 8, 2016. He was born July 14, 1924 to the late George and Kate Hicks Mallett in Natchitoches. He was raised in the Marthaville area and graduated from Coushatta High School in 1940. He joined the U.S. Air Force soon after graduating. He was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran who served in the Pacific War Campaign including the Philippines, Okinawa, and the Japan Occupation Group. He retired after 22 years of service to his country. He completed his education at Northwestern State University after his retirement and graduated in 1971. He loved Northwestern and attended all sporting events until he was unable to. He still watched sports on television and enjoyed all visitors. He bled purple for NSU and was a huge LSU fan. George loved people and always had a story to tell. He was an intelligent man and loved to play Jeopardy until his death. He was a unique man with a huge heart and loved to be around young people. His hobbies were sports, cooking, and fishing. He had a camp on Toledo Bend for over twenty years, and boy could he tell some fishing stories! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by four daughters, Geraldine "Gerri" Mallet Newman and husband Randy of Wiggins, Miss., Connie Mallett Culotta and husband Tom, Glenda Mallett Long, and Julie Mallett Young, all of Natchitoches; one sister, Patsy Mallett Patrick of The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Mike Sullenberger, Cane Sullenberger, and Stephen Sullenberger, all of Gulf Port, Miss., Matthew Mallett Culotta, Sophie Culotta, John Whittington, Justin Long, all of Natchitoches, Jason Whittington of Shreveport, and Kip Tanner Young of Cincinnati, Ohio; 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Pearl M. Mallett; his son, George "Kip" Henderson Mallett, III; his grandson, Joseph "Joey" Henderson Culotta; his son-in-law, Layton Long; his parents, George and Kate Hicks Mallett; and one sister, Emily Mallett Berry Those honored to serve as his grandchildren, who called him "Paw-Paw", will serve as his pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hicks, Tom Culotta, Norman Hicks, and Tommy Mathis. The family would like to thank Dr.'s Bryan and Cissy Picou, Synergy Home Health, and his wonderful caregivers Jean Gray, Sheryl Lee, Shelia Lodrigue, and Shuntell Milsap. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NSU Athletics.
