A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gracie Smith was held Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Pastor George Rogers officiating. Burial followed at St. Maurice Cemetery in St. Maurice. The family received friends Monday, Feb. 9 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith, 89 of Clarence, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at her residence with her family by her side. She was born Jan. 6, 1927 in Clarence.  She was a loving and kind person, who, although she never had children of her own, was a mother to many. She loved the word of God, and Psalm 23 and Psalm 91 were here favorite passages. She was a great cook and was known for her figs and pecan praline candy. She will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her close family and caretakers, Dusty and his wife DanaEmley of Clarence, Mary  Helen Emley and her spouse Clarence Walker of Clarence, and Elizabeth Elaine Hardin and her husband James ofAlexandria; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Miller “Pete” Smith; and her parents, Mike Emley and Ruby Doyal Emley McCrory.
