Funeral services for Aubrey Mathews Jr., 73, of Black Lake will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery. A Rosary will begin at 6 p.m. at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Feb. 4, with a visitation following. Mathews was born Sept. 3, 1942 in Epps and passed away Feb. 1, 2016. Mathews served in the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Jewel Mathews; mother, Mayberda DelRio LaCour and stepfather, Murrell LaCour; son, Aubrey Jewel Mathews, Jr. II (Skip); daughter, DeBet LeeJean Mathews; brothers, Alvin Mathews, Allan James Mathews and Forest Wayne Mathews; sisters, Sally Mae Mathews, Betty Mae Philyaw and Diane Mathis. Mathews is survived by his loving wife, Helen Jeanette Mathews of Black Lake; stepchildren, Jackie Trichel and wife, Debbie of Corning, Iowa, and Pam Trichel of Black Lake; one sister, Mary Bell and husband, Chris of Black Lake; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Pallbearers will be Matt Bell, Kevin Hill, Kyle Hill, Joey Trichel, Monty Trichel, and Stanley Dortlon. The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers; as well as, Dr. Wyche Coleman Jr., Natchitoches Cancer Center, Dr. Mazzarella at Shreveport Regional Urologist Center, and Willis-Knighton North Hospital. Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home of Coushatta is in charge of arrangements.
