Funeral service for Wendell Bates Moore will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with James Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday Mr. Moore, 80, and a resident of the Oak Grove Community, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pineville. He was born July 5, 1935 to John William Moore and Ella Bates Moore in Provencal. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A pipefitter by trade, he was also an excellent mechanic who could fix almost anything. He loved his family and spent the last few years being a care giver for his sister. If Wendell considered you to be his friend, there would be nothing he wouldn’t do for you. He definitely was a one of a kind and unique person and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Mandy and Julie; sisters, Clio Syers and Eurcle Culipher; a sister-in-law, Daisy Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Moore; a sister, Gladys Schrump; and a brother, John W. “Junior” Moore. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Andrew Vallien, John Wood, Keith Scroggins, Dakota Scroggins, Buddy Wood and Chris Moore. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in Mr. Moore’s name to Gideon’s International, 1982 Marthaville Highway, Many, LA 71449 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
